Recently I was reminded of one of my all-time favorite artists and an inspiration to me as a designer: Georgia O'Keeffe. My Mom and I went to her museum in Santa Fe years ago and I was blown away by her style.
To me, (art critics or others might disagree) her art is feminine and soft with gorgeous sinuous lines and a beautiful representation of nature. I've always been a girly-girl myself, so maybe that is why I am so drawn to her style. I am also very drawn to nature. There is something almost sensual about her work with the curves of the flowers and foliage.
I have one of her prints framed above my guest bed (Belladonna-pictured below) and a coffee table book of her work. The colors of her blue-gray and greenish floral paintings are my favorites. It inspired the color scheme in my home and the soft lines of my accessories and art.
I even used her work as a jumping off point for one of my college projects: designing a chair. If you are having trouble with where to start on choosing a color scheme or starting place for designing your home, picking a favorite artist or piece of artwork is a great way to begin.
Many people already own beautiful paintings or artwork (don't forget about sculptures!) that can suffice as a muse for unfolding a unique interior. If you don't own artwork that can get the ball rolling, get online and look up some famous artists that may have a style that matches your own. You will be surprised!

The Belladonna print is my favorite. I too went to Okeefe museum and was fascinated by her art and her life story.
